‘There’ll be an huge variety of bikes at Peterborough’

- MARK BRYAN SILVERSTONE AUCTIONS

After a great sale at the MCN London Motorcycle Show in February, it’s back to work for the Silverstone Auctions team. In May, we’re at Peterborough for the Devitt MCN Festival of Motorcycling – and really looking forward to it. The sale in London was our first stand-alone bike sale and our first time at the show, but it went really well, with some great bikes and great sale prices. Now, as the official auction partners of MCN, we’re gearing up for the first ever auction at the Peterborough event.

The sale is going to be held in the atrium between the main show hall and the café. It’s a good space for us and we should have well over 100 machines in the catalogue by sale time. Admission will be by catalogue; they’re only £5 and admit two people, so we’re hoping for a good turnout. At the London sale, about 30% of successful bids were from bidders in the room and there was a real appetite for getting back to the live sale environment.

Because the festival is a very inclusive event – aimed at both modern and classic bike fans – we’ve tried to shape the sale to be the same and there’ll be an incredible variety of machines for sale. We’ve got a selection of bikes from the estate of a minibike collector in the Isle of Man. Then there’s a collection of autocycles, including a Vincent Firefly, and at the other end of the spectrum a stunning 1969, Honda CB750 sandcast. We’ve got low-mileage original machines, barn finds, investment-grade classics, vintage machines, rideable, everyday classics, off-roaders... and a few more modern, collectable machines. There really will be something for everyone.

We’re actively involved in strengthening our involvement with the classic bike community – and to help with this, we’re increasing our team of motorcycle specialists, having just recruited another for the team. Ian Kerr is a passionate motorcyclist who has been around the classic bike scene for years. He’ll be sourcing bikes for us around the south, south-east and M40 corridor. Since the start of the year, we’ve become sponsors of the Kempton Park Autojumbles too.

We aim to become an integral part of the UK classic bikes scene and, naturally, we’ll be at Kempton Park on May 7. If you’re at Kempton, come and say hello – we’ll be delighted to see you. silverstoneauctions.com
