JANUARY 1992, CB41
The cover shows Candida, the 1929 Camper & Nicholsons 23-Metre which later raced against the J-Class. Back in January 1992 she was newly restored and part of a smattering of new arrivals at that summer’s La Nioulargue, which included Endeavour and Astra. Writer Peter Chesworth says of the regatta: “The organisers have always imprinted a very gentlemanly attitidue on the event.” Elsewhere our January issue 30 years ago features the perennial favourite the Deben 4-Tonner, about which Mark Fishwick writes of his ride for the day: “She is as pretty a craft as you could hope for, and sadly she is spoken for.” This issue was the first following the departure of Classic Boat’s founder Pete Greenfield. Successor Peter Milne arrives and the magazine’s editorial concludes: “We reckon we’ve found the right man for the job.”
