Silhouette, 1910
Here’s a wonderful Fife yacht that is less known in northern European waters but is well raced in the Mediterranean circuit. Silhouette is a ga-rigged 8-Metre ga cutter designed by William Fife III and built in mahogany planks on oak frames in 1910 by Abeking & Rasmussen in Germany.
Her first owner – she was launched as Woge IV – was Consul Otto C Ernst. Today she is a regular participant in the Gstaad Yacht Club’s annual Centenarians' Trophy, where she is helmed by the race organiser and Silhouette’s owner Daniel Heine.
Daniel had the rig rebuilt according to the original plans, which were retrieved by
Duncan Walker, at the time of Fairlie Yachts. The mast is Sitka spruce provided by John Lammerts van Bueren’s Touchwood company.
She is on the list to attend Voiles d'Antibes this June, but not the Fife Regatta, which runs very soon after.
