Duet turns 110 years old
The UK’s longest-serving sail training vessel, Duet, celebrated her 110th birthday in Levington, Su olk, with three generations of the Courtauld family on board. Duet and Peter Duck, the ketch once owned by Arthur Ransome, were moored in Levington to coincide with the Su olk and The Sea book festival in Trimley. Elizabeth Courtauld, widow of Christopher Courtauld, who cofounded the Ocean Youth Trust, set sail on the River Orwell with old and new friends of Duet.
Built in 1912, the ga -rigged yawl was bought by August Courtauld, the Arctic explorer, in 1931. She has been sail-training since 1960, having twice won the Tall Ships Race, and is now on permanent loan to the Cirdan Trust. www.cirdantrust.org
