£12k RESTO BOOST
Online site shells out on three projects
Three classic restoration projects have been chosen to benefit from the first eBay Car Challenge.
The owners of a 1968 Riley Kestrel 1300, a 1973 MkIII Triumph GT6, and a 1971 Volkswagen Beetle, will each receive £4000 to spend on parts and accessories from the online business prior to a final reveal in July.
Hundreds of applicants applied to the challenge that was launched in March ( CCW, 23 March).
Charlie Renwick, aged 25, is restoring the Riley Kestrel that once belonged to his great grandmother. The car needs serious attention after sitting in a garage for more than 40 years.
David Newell, 41, is hoping to rid his daily-drive GT6 of rust problems and replace much needed parts of what he calls the ‘poor man’s E-type’.
Robyn Avis-Smith, 21, is tackling her second Beetle project and needs lots of interior trim parts, some bodywork and an engine overhaul on the car she’s named ‘Godfrey’.
‘With a VW that needs a whole new interior, a Riley Kestrel which needs a suspension overhaul to get it back on the road, and a MkIII Triumph GT6 facing some challenging rust issues, eBay’s unbeatable selection means it is both easy and simple for these restorers to bring their cars back to life,’ says Murray Lambell, eBay’s director of retail car parts and accessories. ‘I personally can’t wait to see the end result.’ David Brown
