When will my Audi be a classic?

Reading the escapades of your various staff fleet cars made me wonder if my 2002 Audi A4 3.0 Quattro can be regarded as a classic. It is certainly older than your £500 Challenge MG ZR and Nick Larkin’s Rover 75, and close in age to the various staff MX-5s you feature.

I’ve owned my car for more than ten years, taking the mileage from 78,000 when purchased to over 192,000 now. I bought it with a full Audi service history and have had it serviced every 10k by an independent specialist. In all that time it has let me down just once (coil pack failure), the original clutch was replaced at 177k and it is still on its original exhaust.

This is now my third Audi – I owned a 1993 2.0-litre 80 saloon for a number of years, followed by an 1996 2.6 A4 Avant. They required nothing other than routine servicing. My current A4 is still in amazing condition. None of them have been garaged as this is reserved for my ‘proper’ classic – a Triumph 2.5PI.

With Audi making its cars so well, there are loads from the nineties and noughties still in regular use. If it’d made them to deteriorate as well as Fords and Vauxhalls, they’d make it into the classic scene much sooner! Scott Moore, Gilsingham, Suffolk
