1968 Triumph TR5

-

HOW LONG HAVE YOU HAD IT?

I bought it from a dealer in 2007 for £18,500. I’d been looking for a TR5 for some time. A fellow enthusiast saw an ad in the VSCC club mag. The car was for sale in North Wales, but I was beaten to it by a dealer, Classic Marks from Norfolk. I continued my search and it eventually came up on the dealer’s website.

HOW MUCH HISTORY?

The history file includes many old photos of the car and many of the rebuilds. It came from the factory in white, was changed to red, then (by the previous lady owner) to BRG. That lady bought the car as a wreck from TR Bitz in the mid-1980s. She had it restored and used it every day, doing 200k miles in 15 years.

WHAT’S LEFT TO DO ON IT?

Very little. I’ve repaired lots of bodywork and repainted it, and replaced the interior with high quality tan leather. All the transmission from flywheel to hubs has been renewed or refurbished with upgraded parts. The engine was rebuilt during the original resto. It has now done about 250k (I have data to confirm exact mileage) and gives maximum oil pressure even at hot tickover. End float is well within tolerance and it shows no sign of wear. It is currently insured for £50k.

HAS IT BEEN MODIFIED?

The car is generally standard throughout, though it has been treated to a few modifications/ improvements.
