NEW RACES FOR GOODWOOD MEET

Rover SD1s, Ford Capris and Mini Coopers are set to return

-

Next year’s 76th Goodwood Members’ Meeting will see the Moss Trophy race return to the Earl of March’s playground.

2018’s meet will take place on 1718 March and will feature 12 races stretching from Saturday afternoon through to Sunday evening.

Saturday morning will see a new race – the Ronnie Hoare Trophy. Named after Ford and Ferrari dealer, Colonel Ronnie Hoare, it is a race for roadgoing sports and GT cars that competed between 1963 and 1966. Entries will include Porsche 911 and 904 Carrera GTSs, and Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ1s.

Another new race in the calendar is the Bolster Cup, which celebrates John Bolster, one of the pioneers of the ‘specials’ movement. Aeroengined one-offs will take on lightweight models from the likes of Riley and GN.

Returning for the first time since 2014 is the Sears Trophy, named in honour of famed racer, ‘Gentleman’ Jack Sears. Lotus Cortinas, Mini Cooper Ss, and Ford Anglias trade paint in one of the most anticipated races of the weekend.

The Moss Trophy is also returning after a three-year sabbatical – expect to see lightweight Jaguar E-types, Lotus Elites, and the odd Ferrari 250 GT doing battle.

A highlight for many will be the hour-long Gerry Marshall Trophy race for Group 1 Saloon Cars, which will run at dusk on the Saturday evening.

Closing the curtain on events will be the Salvadori Cup, for sports cars made between 1955 and 1960. Jaguar D-types, Chevrolet-engined Listers, and Tojieros will light up their tyres in these races.

A spokesperson for the event, says: ‘Don’t forget the daily high-speed demonstrations that complement the race action. Thunderous Lola, McLaren and Surtees machines, all powered by Chevrolet V8 powerplants, will star, with BMW 320s, Ferrari 512 BB/LMs, Lancia Beta Montecarlos and Porsche 935s taking to the track for the hugely popular sideshow.’ goodwood.com
