Bonhams’ Members’ Meeting sale wouldn’t be complete without a few competition cars, and this Corvair was a ready-made, unusual way onto the historic saloon grid.
Imported to Britain after being converted to competition specification in the USA, plenty of engine work, including bigger carburettors and a race camshaft, as well as beefed-up driveshafts, meant this would be a crowd-pleased in any event into which it was entered.
And, in the great scheme of things, it wasn’t expensive.
