HOW LONG HAVE YOU HAD IT?

Having read Classic Car Weekly for many years, I have at long last got around to contacting you for a current valuation of my car. It was bought on Valentine’s Day 2012 from a specialist dealer, Arun Cars Ltd of Pulborough. I’d actually visited the showroon to look at another car, which I bought, and it turned out to have been in the same collection as this one.

Something about the XJR stuck in my head and two months later I went back to the showroom and was told that they were just about to send it for auction. Needless to say I bought it – for £6995 – and went back two weeks later after it had been given a service and fresh MoT. They informed me that during that time Bryan Ferry had seen the car and come in to buy it for his son. Clearly, it wasn’t his day!

HOW MUCH HISTORY?

Apart from various bits of service stuff, there’s not much history with the car. The previous owner maintained more than 20 Jaguars in his collection but requested that the dealer sell half of them off when his health began to deteriorate.

The car’s 51,000 miles is confirmed by paperwork in the history file and the total of 12 stamps in the service book. All paper MoTs are also on file, along with some assorted receipts for tyres, bulbs and other consumables. It was featured in a marque-specialist magazine, six years ago, too.

WHAT’S LEFT TO DO ON IT?

All I’ve had to do to the car so far is fit a new oil sensor unit. For now there’s absolutely nothing left to do on the car. It’s currently insured for £10,000.

HAS IT BEEN MODIFIED?

No, there are no modifications on this car.
