1 IT WAS GOING TO BE IN LEICESTER

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - THIS WEEK -

Had the original plans for the NEC been carried out, the Classic Motor Show, staged at the NEC since 1984, would indeed have been in Leicester. Its NEC would have been found off junction 21 of the M1, but the incumbent county council turned the proposal down, claiming that major exhibitors wouldn’t host shows outside London. Birmingham, however, was happy to take on the plans; the Edward Mills-designed NEC broke ground in 1973 and was opened by HM the Queen in 1976.
