Keep your classic damp-free on the cheap

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - THIS WEEK -

I read with great interest Fuzz Townshend’s winter guide, ( CCW, 24 October). It was a superb article and one that will help every classic car owner. His ninth tip was the use of a dehumidifier. While that is an excellent idea, it is not always practical for those who are on a tight budget or those of us who own more than one classic car.

I have an alternative. We buy very cheap (£1 each) and simple moisture traps from the supermarket. We put one in the front of the car, one in the back and one in the boot. The amount of moisture these collect is amazing and may need changing twice while the car is laid up over the winter. We also put a couple around the garage. These will protect your upholstery, carpets and headlining and will help to prevent rust. Robin Laughlin, Stowmarket
