WHY I LOVE MY CITROËN H VAN

David has owned his 1970 HY van for around five years, and building hot rods for a living means his isn’t exactly standard:

‘It’s my everyday vehicle and I wanted something that was more usable. I’d been looking for a few years and found this one in the north of England, and although the bodywork was a bit battered it was very solid underneath with no rust. I bought a secondhand Audi A4 and over the Christmas of 2013 set about transferring the 1.9 diesel engine and transmission to the van. It took about six weeks in all and I also used the brakes so the HY has discs all round, and modified the hubs to accept modern bearings.
