HOW LONG HAVE YOU OWNED THE CAR?

I have owned it for just over five years. I am very much a fair weather driver and keep it garaged in an effort to preserve what I consider to be a solid motor, which goes some way to explaining the limited annual mileage – just over 3000 since I got it. Very much a car of my childhood, this was the opportunity for Porsche ownership at entry level and to also explore the merits of managing a classic car/hobby car. So far so good on this 1989 (G) 176,000-miler. When it comes to valuation, prices seem to be so wide, from project to first class and I have nothing tangible to draw a comparison with, hence me contacting you. Also does the registration number add anything?

HOW MUCH HISTORY?

There is a lifetime’s worth of bills and service information.

WHAT’S LEFT TO DO ON IT?

The thumbwheel rheostat that is supposed to dim the dashbaord instrument backlighting has no effect and the rear hatch locking mechanism won’t disengage first time when opening – it has to cycle a few times before it will. There is a very small oil leak, which is easily managed with cardboard on garage floor; it’s such an insignificant leak rate that there is no noticeable impact on oil levels or additional burden for topping up. The advice when last serviced was to leave it alone.

HAS IT BEEN MODIFIED?

It has been subtly modified in that the wheels clearly aren’t original factory issue, and a previous owner has installed silver rings around the dashboard gauges, which I think look smart. Finally, the door mirrors are not the standard square ones – I think they might be from a 968.
