MINI MkI (1959-67)

-

WHY IT’S SPECIAL The original and, in many ways, purest Mini. A flashback to an economy motoring watershed

While the Mini’s sporting successes have meant that it is the Cooper models that have become by far the most famous and valued of variants, it’s important to remember the vast majority of the over five million made were much more humble machines. It’s as an economy car, not a sports car, that the Mini was most significant after all, and of all the ‘cooking’ models, as far as enthusiasts are concerned, the earlier the better. The styling is the most charming of perhaps any Mini, but beyond that, its about transporting yourself back to 1959, when the Mini first appeared, as Issigonis originally intended it, and transformed motoring across the world.
