MINI COOPER SPORT 500 (2000)
WHY IT’S SPECIAL The 500 last cars made hold a special place in collector’s hearts, even if they aren’t the most dynamically satisfying
Collectors always clamour after the first and last of things, but at least with the Mini, the last cars are actually unique. These final 500 cars all feature a dashboard plaque that notes their
exact position on the last days of Mini production. Despite the name, the Sports Pack of 1996-on actually made the cars worse to drive, with a harsh ride and reduced turning circle, but that’s not the appeal of these 500s – it’s all about owning your own piece of Mini history. Items that originally came with the car, such as the Mini-branded shoulder bag, should really be with the car if you’re looking for the true collector’s example.
