PLANS FOR ‘NEW’ ESCORT MkIIs
Prices start from £7k, but a complete RS shell could be yours for £30k
Marque specialist Motorsport Tools has announced plans to offer complete two-door Ford Escort MkIIs to the public – built either from scratch or using a rusty donor vehicle.
Managing director, Carwyn Ellis, said: ‘We can supply just about everything for the Escort MkII and are looking towards building complete cars.
‘We specialise in performance Escorts, but there is no reason why we couldn’t build someone a lower spec model. The shells are on sale at £6999 including VAT, and include doors, bonnet and boot lid.’
Carwyn reckons that a complete RS specification car would cost around £30,000, depending on spec; a Popular or Ghia would have to be on application.
He said: ‘The bodyshells are good value if you look at the cost of restoring a original.
‘We can even get seats for the RS models, though we might need a donor car for some lower-spec model interior parts.’
The bodyshells are manufactured by Northern Ireland-based Higgins Car Parts, which also supplies panels. Its MD, Martin Higgins, said: ‘We realised that with a massive surge of interest in Escort MkIIs that it would be worth building complete shells.
‘We started about three years ago from our own factory in the Far East and have now made 50-60 shells.’
