Unwashed for 47 years!

A 40,000-mile Hillman Imp Super stored since 1972 has been unearthed following a chance encounter with an enthusiast.

A mother and daughter bought the 1967 car from local dealer Slater’s of Abergele, Conwy, but it ended up in storage after a brief spell on the road– until specialist, Terry Cooper, of R&T Services (who is now selling the Hillman), found the car.

He said: ‘ The mother didn’t drive, and the car was driven into an open-ended building and just left when the daughter got married in 1972.’

Terry was doing some work at a garage in the Abergele area. He said: ‘I had my Sunbeam Stiletto parked outside and a gentleman came in and said he knew of a car that would be useful for spares. He turned out to be the husband of the lady who had owned the car with her mum.

‘It’s far too good to scrap but it does need work. I do want the car to go to a buyer who is going to restore it as it is.’

The Imp needs work on the sills and rear arches as well as a mechanical overhaul, though the interior is said to be immaculate.

The car has been left exactly as recovered. Terry said: ‘It hasn’t had a wash since 1972 and definitely needs

one!’
