Jaguar XJ6 S1
1971 JAGUAR XJ6 SERIES 1 4.2
The Jaguar has been in winter storage but hopefully I’ll be well into the list of jobs it needs doing by the time you read this. As well as the planned fl uid changes, I’ve replaced the ignition switch, but the new part is faulty so needs redoing. The heater-valve bypass is still in place (I’m waiting for parts) and I’ve decided that ridiculous auto choke is coming off . It’s been rebuilt, adjusted and fiddled with, but it still randomly throws masses of petrol in, sometimes in the middle of a motorway run!
Improved mpg aside, I’m looking forward to driving it regularly again. Planned events include the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club’s Festival at Blenheim Palace next month, the Jaguar Drivers’ Club’s XJ day at Gaydon in June and the Goodwood Revival.
1960 AUSTIN CAMBRIGE
Crumbs, so that was winter! The Cambridge has been resting in a lock-up garage since Christmas with just a couple of outings to stop it fusing into a big lump of immovable metal.
Before the car turns a wheel in anger I want to get it MoT’d. I have also finally had to admit that I have too many projects that would be better off in the hands of someone who would complete them, so a fleet cull is nigh. Hopefully money will then trundle into the Cambridge’s oftdecimated repaint fund.
Following the devastating news that the BMC/BL Rally and Spares Day is no more, the Cambridge will have to go somewhere else for its major public airing this year, probably the excellent event at Parson Drove.
Right, so that’s a deadline set!
