‘NO CONCERNS’ OVER 50% DROP IN CLASSIC MoTs
Department for Transport says it has no plans to reverse classic car exemption – but clubs call for owners to carry on with tests
The Department for Transport says that it has no concerns about the safety of older classics now exempted from annual MoT tests – despite new figures showing that the number of Historic Vehicles being submitted for roadworthiness tests has halved.
It said that it was monitoring the impact of the changes but had no reason to change it due to the relatively low number of vehicles affected.
However, owners’ clubs and the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs are still encouraging classic owners to take their cars in for voluntary MoT tests. MG Car Club general manager, Adam Sloman, said: ‘A second pair of eyes is always a good thing. I think that a lot of people still do it out of habit, but it may well go down over time as new people come into the classic car hobby.’
