LAMBORGHINI CLUB UK’S GEOFF ARMSTRONG ON THE OPENING SCENE OF THE ITALIAN JOB, STARRING A MIURA THAT’S NOW BEEN FULLY RESTORED.
Lamborghini’s heritage division, Polo Storico, has identified and restored the Lamborghini Miura that stars in the opening scene of The Italian Job, ending 50 years of speculation.
The car that later crashes into a digger was actually another, already heavily damaged Arancio Orange Miura.
By examining the car, factory records and testimonies from former employees, Lamborghini has since confirmed that chassis number 3586 is the car that appeared in the driving shots with actor Rossano Brazzi and stunt driver Enzo Moruzzi on Italy’s Great St Bernard Pass.
It lived in Italy, France and latterly the UK as late as 2014; four years later, collector, Fritz Kaiser, bought the car and took it to Polo Storico.
Lamborghini Club UK committee chair, Geoff Armstrong, said: ‘For anybody of a certain age, it is a scene that’s lived with them forever. Unlike most films of the era, the sound of the car’s engine actually tallies with what is going on on-screen as well; there’s no accelerating into hairpins or anything. It’s iconic.’
