HERALD TRAINING CHASSIS SAVED
1200 chassis to be restored (and used) by historic vehicle apprentices
Students from the Heritage Skills Academy are to rebuild the last Triumph Herald 1200 tutorial chassis that the Association of Heritage Engineers (AoHE)has loaned to its course.
Its owner, AoHE managing director, Dominic Taylor-Lane, believes that it is the last training chassis in existence that will be used as intended; after restoration
by HSA students, it will be used to educate budding apprentices for years to come.
The AoHE plans to trailer the chassis to shows throughout the coming year as a promotional tool and rolling restoration and its owner is urging anyone with further information on the chassis’ past, which bears Standard Triumph Sales Limited Publicity Division Technical Display Unit serial number 213, to get in touch. He is also seeking parts sponsorship because its gauges, master cylinders, indicators and light stalk have been pilfered over the years and its single seat and steering wheel are showing signs of damage.
Dominic said: ‘The AoHE is pleased to have been able to acquire this fantastic piece of British car history. Although many [training and promotional chassis] were built, a large proportion have been used for concours rebuilds of other Heralds, because they were perfect candidates.
‘I am extremely pleased that this one will stay within the educational environment for which it was intended.’
