DAVID BEATS GOLIATH IN BENTLEY CENTENARY
Britain’s oldest permanent race track was keen to pay homage to another British motor racing institution this year, giving topbilling to the ‘Mad Jack’ race for pre-war sports cars in celebration of Bentley’s centenary on the Saturday. Six Bentleys battled it out with contemporaries from Morgan, Maserati and Aston Martin among others, though as in the similar John Duff Trophy at the Goodwood Members’ Meeting a month earlier, they couldn’t match smaller, nimbler cars on tracks considerably shorter than the Circuit de la Sarthe where they often dominate.
