DAVID BEATS GOLIATH IN BENTLEY CENTENARY

Britain’s oldest permanent race track was keen to pay homage to another British motor racing institutio­n this year, giving topbilling to the ‘Mad Jack’ race for pre-war sports cars in celebratio­n of Bentley’s centenary on the Saturday. Six Bentleys battled it out with contempora­ries from Morgan, Maserati and Aston Martin among others, though as in the similar John Duff Trophy at the Goodwood Members’ Meeting a month earlier, they couldn’t match smaller, nimbler cars on tracks considerab­ly shorter than the Circuit de la Sarthe where they often dominate.
