Ambitious plans to bring an enormous classic car show to Cambridgeshire have been put on hold. Motorfest 2019, scheduled for 25-27 May, was cancelled by organisers International Sports Car and Classic Limited due to ‘circumstances very much out of our control’. A spokesperson told Classic Car Weekly that showgoers and traders had been informed. An email address, sportscarandclassic@gmail.com, was provided for customers to get in touch with any concerns. It has also promised full refunds to all ticket holders.

Booked to appear at the East of England Arena and Events Centre in Peterborough, Motorfest 2019 was to host more than 3500 classic cars and motorbikes, organised with Heritage Insurance. An International Sports Car and Classic Limited spokesperson said: ‘Despite selling over 60,000 tickets we were not able to host this year’s event. We would like to thank everyone for their kind words of support and hope that next year’s event will more than make up for the cancellation.’

International Sports Car and Classic Limited and Heritage Insurance also left public statements online; while Motorfest 2019 confirmed the show’s cancellation on its website, Heritage informed customers by email and compensated 850 of its customers who had entered a prize draw to win tickets to the inaugural event.

Daniel Moore, from Daniel Moore & Co, a Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialist based in Peterborough, had a stand booked for the show. He said: ‘I couldn’t get hold of the organisers to confirm it was cancelled. I was worried about it from an insurance point of view. I had big plans to bring a lot of cars, so I’m relieved in a sense. It did look like a hell of a show and something at that venue would be great, but I think it was probably too grand an idea.’

The similarly named MotoFest Coventry and Ormskirk Motorfest classic shows, both unaffiliated to the Peterborough show, are unaffected, and will go ahead as planned this year.
