The Scimitar’s still very much on the naughty step, with a suspected fuelling issue having stranded it twice, so our outing to Croxley Green was definitely the Mazda’s time to shine.

With the exception of a one-off electrical issue caused by a poor earth back in March, it’s definitely been the teacher’s pet of the Simister household, firing up on the first flick of the key and delivering fault-free drives time after time. In fact, the only areas in which it needs attention are cosmetic, and I’m already saving up to sort out some of its tired paintwork and a scuffed driver’s seat bolster over winter.

Not that any of that mattered a jot on the roof-down blast down the A1 from our offices to Classics on the Green; there are a few better feelings in classic cardom than enjoying the sunshine, being at the wheel of a beautifully-balanced reardrive sports car and having five other classics to keep you company. NRX rocked up at the show two hours after leaving the office without so much as a whisper of complaint, leaving me to get on with the bit I’d really been looking forward to – ogling all the classics that you all brought along. Highlights included a two-door Range Rover in Warwick Green – for sale at a shade under £16k – and a prototype version of what would have been the Gilbern Invader MkIV.

Oh, and a particularly well lookedafter 1971 Reliant Scimitar GTE. I should probably get one at some point…
