MORRIS J-TYPE (1949-61)

-

TOTAL MADE 48,600

First seen at the Earls Court Commercial Transport Show in October 1948, the Morris Commercial J-Type 10cwt van featured sliding doors at the front and rear doors with outrigger hinges to allow them to open flat against the sides.

After BMC was formed in 1952, the van was marketed as the Morris J-Type, continuing to use the offset 1476cc side-valve engine as used in the Morris MO. The van was updated in 1957 as the JB with an overhead valve 1489cc BMC B-series engine with four-speed gearbox. The Austin 101 version appeared the same year, differing only in the badge and grille. J-Types also proved popular with the GPO.
