MGB GT (1965-80)

WHY YOU’LL WANT ONE

-

They’re loads of fun to drive and you can get just about anything for them

An almost never-ending stream of spares, a nationwide network of cluedup specialists and a thriving clubs scene has helped to keep more than 22,000 ‘Bs on Britain’s roads – and that means that there’s almost always a healthy number to choose from in CCW’s classifieds.

You can bag roadsters within our £5k budget, but you’re more likely to fnd a GT in better condition – no bad thing, because you get baby E-type proportions, two tiny back seats and room for a weekend’s worth of clobber.

You don’t necessarily have to go for one of the later ‘rubber bumper’ examples, either – plenty of the ones that have sold at auction this year within our £5k have been of the earlier, chromebumper variety, although we’d be happy with either version, because they’re just as much fun from behind the wheel.

Familiarity may have dulled its impact, but the ‘B GT’s proportions are spot on, you’ll never tire of the way it scampers along B-roads, and it’ll be welcomed with open arms into virtually any classic show you care to mention.
