TRIUMPH TR7 (1975-81)

WHY YOU’LL WANT ONE

-

They’re addictively good fun, and prices haven’t shot up… not yet, anyway

The best-selling TR of them all has chalked up fans aplenty in the four decades since the last one rolled off the production line – including our very own Chris Hope, and contributor

Alex Riley, who swear by theirs. As a result, prices have quietly been creeping up, but there are still some bargains to be had if you’re prepared to bide your time.

Back in July H&H Classics sold a 1980 example for £4725 in one of its online-only auctions, and one plucky buyer who didn’t mind a freshly-expired MoT managed to bag a convertible for £4240. You normally don’t have to wait too long to find them appearing in our classified ads, either, and for our £5k budget you should be able to get behind the wheel of a ‘7 that’s been doted on by its previous owners.

The driving experience may be a little more saloon-esque than its TR predecessors but it’s still more than capable of slapping a grin across your face on a good road. And you’ll never grow tired of those pop-up headlights.
