Traditional favourites do well
Mini and Jag XKR sail past their upper estimates in online-only sale
August’s ABC sale – catering for automobilia, bikes and cars – continued the auctioneer’s monthly online-only programme with numerous later entries adding to the spice, and pre-war motors fired up as much interest as later cars.
A 1915 Hupmobile Model HA tourer that had been in one Irish family’s ownership from new made a pleasing £24,750. Also from one-family ownership was an 82k-mile 1966 Morris Mini that went comfortably beyond its £6500 upper estimate to make £10,125.
A 1972 Clan Crusader wasn’t dear at £6750, especially as the tuned Imp engine alone had been specialistvalued at £5k-6k. A 1973 MercedesBenz 280 CE that needed some re-commissioning but had received much work made £14,625.
The more traditional classic segment is still bidding keenly, with a 1964 MGB Roadster making £10,239 and a 1959 Triumph TR3A a more than decent £24,750.
The next ABC sale takes place on 16 September and features a 1935 Morris 8 saloon (£2k-3k) and a 1970 Buick Skylark Custom convertible (£10k-15k). The garage-find Morris is said to have very good bodywork and a good engine, while the Buick was imported in 1995 and has had a re-paint, new mohair hood and some new trim fitted.
