BUYING TIPS
■ The IOE/OHV engines are fairly rugged, but like regular oil changes, so check the service history.
■ Check around the mountings where the chassis goes over the rear axle and around the bump stops for corrosion, and check the boot floor, B- and C-pillars and sills, too.
■ If the overdrive isn’t working, it’s usually as a result of a faulty solenoid. Later unit gearboxes in particular are long-lived, but synchromesh can still wear on second gear.
