Metro’s 40th birthday
The Austin/Rover Metro is to be commemorated in a new temporary exhibition at the British Motor Museum.
The display will be hosted online for the first time and owners are invited to share their own stories of the best-seller.
2020 marks the 40th anniversary of the Austin Metro and the 30th anniversary of the Rover Metro, running just weeks after the National Metro and Mini Day, which took place at the British Motor Museum on 6 September.
British Motor Museum curator, Cat Griffin, said: ‘We opened our other anniversary exhibition “Range Rover at 50” in March but due to lockdown it was only open for two days. As the museum was closed for three months we decided to extend the run of that display until 28 September and come up with a new way for people to enjoy the story of the Metro.
The online show is packed with all things Metro from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, including facts, photos and film clips, as well as contributions from Metro owners, including IDRIVEACLASSIC’s presenter, Steph Holloway.
