‘EVENT ORGANISERS NEED CLARITY’
‘At the last show I went to – the Old Ford Rally at the British Motor Museum – the venue was already geared-up to support social distancing and the trackand-trace system. It’s the same story with many of the bigger venues and established show organisers, but where the new rules are going to have more of an impact are with the smaller, more informal meets, where organisers don’t have the same staff or facilities at their disposal. What these classic supporters need are clear rules and guidance so that they can put on events that won’t land them in hot water and we can feel safe attending. I’d like to see the Department for Digital Culture, Media and Sport – the government department responsible for shows and venues – being much more proactive, and not leaving organisers with vague guidance that’s open to interpretation.’
