WHAT ABOUT CLASSIC RALLIES?
Special stage rallying on closed public roads still isn’t possible under coronavirus rules, but other forms of classic rallying – run on a combination of private land and public roads to regularity rules within the speed limit – are appearing on itineraries again.
The Historic Endurance Rallying Organisation (HERO) staged its
Hero Challenge Two – the first major professional event of its kind since lockdown restrictions began on 5 September. An earlier novice competition that HERO staged on 23 August was also successful. Attracting 94 cars, the 150-mile tour started and finished at Bicester Heritage in Oxfordshire, run to strict COVID-19 regulations that won the event the endorsement of the chairman of classic motor sport’s governing body, Motorsport UK, Dave Richards CBE: ‘ The events are run with strict controls and very tight average speeds so this is to my mind is the whole future of road rallying in this country. The tests provide that little bit of adrenalin buzz for the crew.’
