SEE HOW IT RIDES
These cars’ suspension takes a pounding, so check their condition carefully. Series IIs with electronicallycontrolled adaptive damping can suffer from ECU faults and tired dampers, both of which are expensive to sort out properly; an overly firm ride is a warning sign that all’s not well. Check all models for worn subframe mounting bushes, wear in ball joints and anti-roll bar links and for any leaks from the power-steering hoses and rack. Also look for a sagging ride height and inner-edge tyre wear because spring replacement is around £2500.
