RICHARD BARNETT’S WEEK OF LOOKING AT THE MARKET

-

THURSDAY

What’s going to happen to ‘regular’ auctions now social gathering legislation have kicked in? Just as things were slightly moving back to pre-Covid life, up pops the Prime Minister saying groups of no more than six people. That heaps even more work (and strain) onto auctioneers. At least most have geared-up with online-only sales, but quite what will be happening with viewing is another matter altogether.

Took the Fourtrak up to Stoneleigh for a look at Classic Car Auctions’ latest lots, and it’s the Warwickshire Collection that interests me the most. There are three Austin A90 Atlantics, which seem to have come into favour recently, a brace of Vanden Plas 4-litre Rs and some Silver Shadows and T-series. However, the car that really catches my eye is a 1964 Rover 100 that was converted to a ‘woodie’ station wagon in 1972 (pictured above). I can hear the purists groaning but let’s face it, it’s been in this modified form for way longer than in its original guise. It gets a double thumbs-up from me.
