In short, the race was on to find the ultimate performance bargain classic.
As you’ll see here, each of our nine thrill-seekers has taken a very different approach to this little exercise, resulting in a truly eclectic mix of cars – everything from perky hot hatches and old-boots-tough offroaders to sporty, lissome coupés and hoofing great luxo-barages.
