WHAT’S IT LIKE TO DRIVE?

Sliding behind the wheel and firing up this renovated MGA is quite a special moment. It behaves impeccably, returning good oil pressure and water temperature readings. The twin carb B-series engine performs admirably and what the car lacks in all-out poke it more than makes up for by the joyful driving experience. It sounds amazing on full chat, handling is positive and lively and steering accurate and direct.

BODYWORK CHECK

The car was restored in 2019 and the workmanship is of the highest order. As such the body is flawless, the paint unblemished and all panel gaps perfectly aligned. The chrome trim is spotless and the wire wheels in top condition. The matching Kumho Power Star 758 tyres are all wearing evenly and will not need to be replaced any time soon. It’s a similar story underneath the car, which is still astonishingly clean thanks to the restoration; the usual problem areas – crossmembers and rear spring hangars – are perfect and the rot-free wooden floors look factory fresh.

HOW’S THE INTERIOR?

The matching red-on-red interior is a bold choice but it’s in superb condition throughout. Poor restorations can be more trouble than they’re worth but that is definitely not the case here and the fit of all of the interior trim pieces is spot on. Nothing is loose or rattly and everything feels well put together. The car comes with full wet weather gear, along with a tonneau, hood and hood pack, all of which are in great condition and fit perfectly. The carpets are dry with no evidence of historic or current water ingress into the cabin and all of the switchgear works as it should. That said, the speedometer does appear to be over-reading slightly.

UNDER THE BONNET

As expected, the engine bay is just as tidy as the rest of the car and all of the correct identification plates are present. It’s also clean and free from grime and corrosion. All belts, leads and hoses look fresh and the radiator is in excellent condition. Both engine and drivetrain are free from any fluid leaks and the idle speed is exactly as it should be. Suspension components, including the rear leaf springs, are in fine fettle and the drum brakes work perfectly. The car comes with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate and full photographic record of the professional restoration process.

THE CCW VIEW

If you’re looking for the ultimate classic British sports car experience, then this is the car for you. It may be edging the top end of the price scale but you really do get what you pay for and what you’re paying for here is an absolute peach of an MGA. This is a turn-key resto car that can be used and enjoyed immediately.
