HOW LONG HAVE YOU OWNED THE CAR?

I have owned my R129 MercedesBenz 300SL for 22 years now – since 1998, in fact. I bought it from a friend for £10,000; it is left-handdrive because the car was originally sold in Portugal. It was subsequently imported to the UK in 1994 when it was just two years old. This SL-24 model has the more powerful version of the 2926cc straight-six, its model number indicating the 24-valve cylinder head that helps it to produce 228bhp. It also came with the optional five-speed automatic gearbox, an electric hood (which is still in good condition) and a separate hard-top that has its own storage rack on wheels.

HOW MUCH HISTORY?

There’s full history with the car. At the time of writing it has now covered 141,240 kilometres, which translates into just 84,600 miles – not bad for a 28-year-old car and nothing for one of these well-made Mercedes. I have all the old MoT certificates to support these figures. The car’s condition is, as you’d expect with that mileage – very good. It currently has an insurance valuation of £12,000.

HAS IT BEEN MODIFIED?

No, everything is still all as it left the factory when new.

WHAT’S LEFT TO DO ON IT?

There’s nothing left to do that I know of. The car has recently had new radiator and cam cover gasket fitted and the brakes were serviced at the same time. I have finally decided to sell it, so could you please advise me on a valuation and also perhaps the best place where I can advertise this vehicle?
