NEC’s Classic Motor Show is considering vaccine passports
Organisers say documentation could reduce the need for on-site testing
Tickets are on sale for the 12-14 November Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery.
Having cancelled last year’s event owing to the pandemic, organiser, Clarion Events, has decided to put certain safeguards in place, even though the show takes place after coronavirus restrictions should have been lifted.
A Clarion statement said: ‘ The show is being planned with a number of COVID-19 safety measures still in place that can adapt with any changing guidelines. Visitors will be asked to choose a specific arrival time and entrance hall from which to enter the show. Organisers are planning the event to ensure that everyone gets the best experience whilst keeping safety is the priority for all. More information can be found on the show’s website.’
A recent development in so-called vaccination passports could further reduce the measures needed for visitors; the government confirmed on 28 April that the NHS COVID-19 smart phone app could be used to generate documentation to prove that a person had received two vaccinations for the purposes of international travel (subject to domestic and foreign restrictions). Visitors who don’t have a smartphone can call 119 and ask their GP for a letter confirming the same thing.
Show director, Lee Masters, said: ‘Clarion has been working with other associations and organisers on a short-term solution, so to hear the government announce that the NHS app will become the “vaccine passport” is positive news.
‘It is too early to say how this will operate within our shows as test events are currently underway but it can only be a good thing if it reduces or negates the need for on-site testing and helps keep everyone safe and secure.’ necclassicmotorshow.com
