HIDDEN FOR 25 YEARS!
ESCORT RS2000 FOR SALE
An unrestored 1975 Ford Escort RS2000 MkI is up for sale at Charterhouse’s 15 July sale at the Haynes International Motor Museum in Somerset.
The seven-owner car was garaged for decades by two brothers; the vendor has owned it since 2018.
VIN details supplied by Charterhouse show that the Escort was produced in December 1974 – the last month that Ford’s AVO arm in Aveley, Essex, produced Escort RS2000 MkIs.
The car is largely complete but has suffered some corrosion and the driver’s seat is damaged. It is estimated at £20,000-25,000.
A Charterhouse spokesperson said: ‘With so many Escort RS2000 MkIs having been raced and rallied and others succumbing to rust and subsequently being scrapped when they were of little value or interest, this is quite probably one of the last genuine Ford Escort RS2000 MkIs in original condition that has never been restored to be offered for sale.’
Classic Car Weekly’s markets editor, Richard Barnett, added: ‘I can’t remember when I last saw an unrestored RS2000 like this. You still see the occasional family model, but not RS2000s.
‘ The value depends on just how original it is; it may have had some pattern panels and such fitted before it went into storage, but the estimate is pretty much spot on if it really is as it left the factory.
‘It is definitely a good opportunity – all the other cars on the market are restored, and you never know quite how the restoration was done.’
