5 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR CLASSIC MORE ENJOYABLE

-

1 FIT AN ELECTRIC FAN

By no means should an electric fan be used to mask a poorly engine, but they are much better at keeping cars cool than engine-driven units, particularly when stationary in traffic, which many older classics simply weren’t designed for.

2 ADD ELECTRONIC IGNITION

A well-timed, strong spark from the ignition system is key to keeping a car running well in the heat. A well set-up points and condenser system can do this, but an electronic system is easier and more reliable.

3 POLYBUSH IT

Classic car owners assume that their clunky suspension is just ‘how they all are’ far too often – a thorough replacement of the chassis’ bushes can often make it feel like a new car. Fitting poly bushes gives greater longevity and firmness though its best to seek expert advice on which bushes to replace with a poly option.

4 BETTER BRAKING

Many classics’ brakes can easily be upgraded by pinching parts such as bigger discs, more powerful calipers and brake servos, from high-spec or closely-related models. Aftermarket pads made from more modern materials can improve even top-specification OEM set-ups.

5 SOUNDS OF THE SUMMER

The right soundtrack can turn a good drive into a great one. Aftermarket head units with modern connectivity start at £40, but more classic-looking units that don’t look incongruous are available at extra cost. Consider upgrading the speakers, too – just don’t get any-thing too powerful for your car’s electrics.
