A SPORTING START
Performance metal helps SWVA to pull in impressive sale rate in its first outing of the year
South Western Vehicle Auctions got its 2022 calendar off to a flying start with an 89 per cent sale rate – or, in other words, 49 out of 55 cars offered found new homes. While there were fewer cars than usual in the Poole auctioneer’s classic sale there was certainly a good selection to please those ripe for fulfilling a New Year’s caracquiring resolution.
Top price of the day was £41,382 paid for a 2006 Aston Martin DB9 Volante, but moving on from the influx of more modern machinery there was plenty of interesting and affordable offerings. The extensively restored 1969 MGB GT that came with bills for more than £25,000 was away for £7366 and a same-year MGB Roadster, estimated at £38004800, went well beyond to a vendorpleasing £8144.
The was more British sports car performance with a pair of Triumph TR6S (1972 and 1976) away for £18,199 and £10,399 respectively, while a 1980 TVR Taimar was deemed good enough to make £17,244 against a £12,500-14,500 pre-sale estimate.
In the Ford pantheon a 1970 Escort RS recreation made £31,415, a price some way ahead of a pleasant 1966 Mustang notchback (with 302ci V8) that made £18,416, while those with a penchant for all cars Swedish were well catered for. A fine 1972 Saab 96 made £7140 (against a £3900-4900 estimate) while a 1966 Volvo 121 four-door made light of its £5000-6000 estimate to sell for £7041. A 1974 Volvo 144E was value par-excellence at £5208, too.
In all a good result and one that got SWVA off to a great 2022 start Its next sale is on 29 April.
