1971 TRIDENT VENTURER

PAUL WINSOR AND ANDY WINSOR

-

Paul Winsor doubted that another classic would have gone down well with his wife when he fell in love with a Trident Venturer that he’d seen for sale so he asked his brother Andy about going halves.

Paul explained: ‘I’d got the car originally just to go on an Alpine Rally and was without a co-driver. With this in mind, I spoke to Andy and we thought, why not just co-own? It meant that we could keep the car going after the rally rather than selling it and it’s worked well for us.

‘We bought the car in August 2021 and did the rally in September. Now we share the use of the car and go to events and rarely double book ourselves – there hasn’t been a disagreement. We live close together and it is easy to be at one another’s house so we both have quick access to the car.

‘The logbook is in my name but that doesn’t matter as we are brothers and we share the costs 50/50. I had classic insurance on it and it cost no extra to put Andy on the same policy.

‘The biggest perk is that the costs are halved and we always discuss what we want to do to the car. It’s nice to have the odd work day – we turn up, get the coffee on and just mess with the car. Of course we have the odd frustrations but we get the same enjoyment from seeing our work pay off.

‘So far we agree on things. If a job needs doing it’s because we are both using the car and if there’s an upgrade we tend to agree. If something needs some thought we find we come to a better conclusion and use two lots of resources. One of us usually has a friend who knows what we need to do.

‘Another perk is that the car gets used a lot more. If I’d have had it on my own I might have sold it because of lack of use but this way it gets used more. We put ourselves forward for local rallies and events and whoever has it on nice days will use it. We have a few more things booked but the Alpine was special because we drove from England to Italy and back again. That experience in itself proved that it is a good, reliable car.’
