Low-mileage Midget and restored Peugeot among Cheshire’s top buys

- RICHARD HUDSON-EVANS CCW’S AUCTION GURU

llesmere Port’s Hooton Park Trust makes a fine backdrop to Hampson’s forthcoming sale. The relative newcomer has brought a decent array of classics to market and features, among others, an early MGB Roadster, a mega-restored Peugeot 106 Rallye, a home-market Austin-healey 100/4 and a oneowner, 4400-mile 1977 MG Midget.

A 1987 Ford Capri Laser upgraded with a 2.0-litre Zetec on throttle bodies offers a fast Ford twist while not one but two Escort RS Cosworths (one a Monte Carlo model) update the blue oval theme.

An unrestored 1960 Jaguar XK150 3.4 Roadster offers period British ploughmans-and-warm-bitter grunt while a 1961 Autobianchi Bianchina sums up something more akin to Chianti on Lake Garda’s shores. There’s a 1979 Chevrolet Corvette that shows 42,000 miles while an original 1968 Morris Mini 1000 from long-term family ownership proves that it’s not necessary to have a Cooper to enjoy late Sixties Mini ownership.
