A TRIUMPHANT RETURN

Fast Ford record and strong sale rate show that bidders are still queuing up

-

Classic Car Auctions’ summer sale mixed regular classics with the old, fast with luxurious and added a few projects for good measure. The result was a 70 per cent sale rate and a value of £2 million.

Numerous later Audis were offered, with an increasingly rare 2002 S8 away at £3150. There was further Teutonic performance from a pair of BMW M5s – a 2005 model making £13,725 and a 2014 model £25,312 – while a noreserve 2003 Mercedes-benz CLK 500 was the bargain of the day at just £1462.

Elsewhere the ex-callis collection former competition 1957 Jaguar 3.4 saloon sold for £8437 and a 1961 3.8 in need of re-commissioning pulled £16,650 from one punter’s wallet.

CCA normally offers a serious offering of blue ovals, and while there were fewer XR and RS badges to be seen a 1961 Consul that required recommissioning made £7425 and a 1971 Ford Capri project that was partially completed £4725. A 1980 Ford Capri 3.0S hit £20,025 and a 1978 Transit camper van £11,812. However, it was a 1975 Capri RS3100 that kept the fast Ford thread alive, selling for £74,250 against a £50-60k estimate, as reported in last week’s issue.

Sales manager, Gary Dunne, said: ‘It was great to be back in Warwickshire, and the strength of our catalogue was reflected in the fact that we had 500 visitors across the two days of viewing and the sale itself, and more than 750 registered bidders. There really was something for everyone, from military vehicles and campervans to hot hatches and sports cars.

‘A number of cars that were either unique or part of a very limited production run deservedly attracted a great deal of interest. There was certainly spirited bidding for the Capri RS3100; it was a thrill to see how happy the new owner was.’
