The V6 starts with a gruff cough and settles to a smooth, restrained idle. The turbochargers spool nicely with the throttles wide open though the car resists the urge to squat under power. The steering remains well weighted through the bends with no shuddering or heaviness but it feels a little vague off centre, although this is typical with AWD Audis. The clutch doesn’t slip, even under the heaviest throttle application, and gears slot home without fuss. The brakes are firm and responsive.

BODYWORK CHECK

There are a few stone chips and nicks around the front bumper but beyond that the car is in good visual condition. The light lenses show no condensation, cracking or misting but the Audi grille badge set is showing its age a little and there is a small amount of scuffing and blistering to the alloy wheels. The glass and seals are all in a good condition bar a small stone chip in the windscreen. The only niggle is that the cap on the spindle of the rear wiper is cracked. The roof and rails are all in fine form with no bleaching or discolouring.

HOW’S THE INTERIOR?

The cabin is in as similar pleasant state as the exterior. There’s a slight amount of wear on the usual touch points (gear lever, handbrake, steering wheel) but little besides and the carpets are in very good condition. The leather on the rear seats is in similarly good order – it appears largely unused – but the fronts are showing their age. There’s some light scuffing to the boot sill protector but nothing much else to note. The door mirrors and electric windows operate smoothly and quietly and the original radio is still fitted.

UNDER THE BONNET

The engine bay is busy and tightly packaged but looks clean and tidy. The plastic covers are all in good condition showing no signs of weathering, scratches, scuffs or staining and there are no signs of leaks. There’s minor surface corrosion around the top of the nearside wing but nothing of great concern. The K&N air filter sticker is still in place and the radiator, coolers and condensers are all tidy with no damaged vanes. The service history is well detailed with endless lists and invoices of parts fitted and standard servicing work done from 2010 to the present day. The most recent work included a cambelt and tensioner change as well as new front brake calipers in 2016.

THE CCW VIEW

So much work has been undertaken with this car that it is in remarkable condition despite the mileage. If you’re looking for a fast load-lugger, then look no further.
