HOW LONG HAVE YOU OWNED IT?

I bought this Merc in 2014 for £5000. There was no big search – I found it at work, of all places. It was actually my boss’ old car and had been very well looked-after. This is an early one, from the year the SL 320 replaced the 300 SL, so it has the 228bhp straight-six 24-valve engine. Later SL 320s (from 1998) got a slightly less powerful 18-valve V6. Since buying the SL it has had four new tyres (replaced more because of their age than wear) and the underside has been thoroughly rustproofed. It is currently insured for £15,000. Could you give me a realistic valuation on my car in today’s market please?

HOW MUCH HISTORY?

I know the §rst and second owners (I am the third). It has done just 36,800 miles and has full Mercedesbenz service history (the service record proves the mileage). It has been stored for the last six years but has now been brought out again and been given a fresh MOT, which it passed without any real issue.

HAS IT BEEN MODIFIED?

It is all completely as it left the factory in 1994.

WHAT'S LEFT TO DO ON IT?

The soft-top requires new clear plastic windows – the old ones have gone white and are cracked in places. There’s also a small dent in the rear quarter near the bumper, though I have been told that this is an easy §x. But other than that it is simply a genuine, rust-free and solid modern classic that just needs to be used more regularly.
