LIVING THE MORRIS DREAM

-

The Morris Register has selected Katie Lawton as the latest enthusiast to beneŠt from its Younger Persons’ Loan Car scheme and was handed the keys to a 1939 Morris 8 Series E Tourer at last weekend’s Classic Car and Restoration Show at the NEC.

Katie, who will enjoy the car for a full 12 months, with insurance covered by Lancaster Insurance, said: ‘My grandad has always owned Morris cars. When lockdown hit it changed my perspective; my grandad had to shield and couldn’t get out to car shows, so I realised I’d got a big hole in my life.

‘As we came out of Covid, grandad was able to get out a little bit and asked how I would feel about driving his Morris 8. He handed his licence back because he’d been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease so there was a role reversal and I became his chau eur. We had a couple of years of me driving his Morris 8 to car shows but he decided to sell it last August.

‘I came to the Classic Motor Show in November and the Morris Register asked me whether I’d consider applying for its loan scheme. I of course said yes. Everybody was determined that I was going to get it so I was thrilled to get the call saying that I’d been selected.’

‘I went to see my grandad yesterday and we’ve got about 20 shows in the diary but I’ll also be taking it into the primary school where I work for an event for the King’s coronation where it will hopefully inspire the next generation.’

If you’re a young enthusiast who would like to borrow this Morris 8 this time next year as part of the register’s loan scheme, you can Šnd further info on the register’s website.
