Jupiter’s Œrst appearance after resto work

-

Restorations aren’t typically a quick process but taking a quarter of a century to turn a car from ‘running but tired’ to a show hall stunner is remarkable. And yet that is exactly what’s happened with this 1953 Jowett Jupiter SA.

Owner, Garth Wright, bought the car as a running project in 1997 and has since re-built, refurbished, and re-painted every aspect of the car to bring it to its current incredible condition. Garth overhauled the engine and transmission and refurbished the steering rack in the early years of the project. The suspension was sorted in the new millennium along with the interior being re-upholstered in the leather pattern. A new axle was sourced to replace the tired and noisy old one and the car’s bodywork nally received some muchneeded attention in 2019. The panels were stripped back and treated to a full re-spray in the car’s original Jowett Cream. During this process many of the panels were found to have been patched with bre glass in a prior ‘restoration’ so these were painstakingly re-created and re-tted. With the trim and dash touched up the job was completed in 2022 with the car making its rst big show appearance at the NEC for the restoration show last weekend.

Garth told Classic Car Weekly: ‘Getting to show oŸ this example of a Jupiter is quite special, especially considering that Jowett is perhaps best known for its more practical and utilitarian cars, the Jupiter stands out from that. It is a treat to drive out on the road and the ¨at four engine sounds so unique.’
