MORRIS MINOR OWNERS CLUB MARIE CURIE CAR UNVEILED

Colourful donated Moggie is all set to raise Marie Curie’s profile up and down the country later this year

-

The Morris Minor Owners Club unveiled its finished Marie Curie charity car at the opening of the show on Friday. With both organisations being founded in the same year, they celebrate their milestones together with both marking their 75th anniversary this year. The car, known aectionately within the club as ‘Miranda’, was donated to the club and was originally Trafalgar Blue before being wrapped in the yellow it now wears.

Mike Dean of the Morris Minor Owners’ Club said: ‘The wrap was a complicated job because the Minor is a lot more technical in its form than modern cars. Instead of having it all as one large wrap, it was instead done in layers, the yellow first and then the details atop that. The idea with the car is that we just hand it over to Marie Curie and they take it to shows and events that classic cars wouldn’t usually be at.’

In a bid to get as many unique and inspired eyes onto the car, the Owners’ Club will give Marie Curie free rein to go with the car as they please raising awareness and money along the way with visits to non-car typical events as well as hospices and locations where the charity’s work is felt. Mike said: ‘We haven’t kept a detailed count, but we know the money we as a club have raised for Marie Curie is well into the sixfigure realm at this point. In 2016 we did JOGLE with a few stop os at branches and raised £40,000.’

All the miles that Miranda will cover in this year’s tour will be carbon balanced through Tree-v, right down to the minutiae of the whole thing like the fake grass that it was parked on at the NEC.
